Do you know when James Bond was born? It might be November 11, 1920, but this date is confusing and opinions differ. However, it is hard to imagine it otherwise. We will share our opinion on this matter, if you promise to tell nobody. The literary character appeared on April 13, 1953, along with the publication of Ian Fleming’s first novel Casino Royale. The cover of the edition was invented and drawn by Fleming himself, a man of many talents. The first print run of the book was less than 5,000 copies and sold out in record time.

Now that the date of the hero’s appearance is roughly clear, let us think about the place. No one disputes the English origin of the famous James, but there is also a French trace here. It leads us straight to the Hôtel Barrière Le Westminster, located in the French resort of Le Touquet. Here Fleming drew inspiration for writing the novel, in particular visiting the local Casino de La Forêt.

In 1962, Sean Connery came to Barrière Le Westminster to sign a contract for his role as James Bond, looking cinematically cool right behind the bar counter. Later, in 1981, Roger Moore stayed at the hotel. The French Barrière Le Westminster values these historical facts very much. One of the hotel’s suites has the number 007. It is decorated with British elegance, and photographs on the walls show Ian Fleming and Sean Connery.
